Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has voiced her disappointment with The Headies award organizers for not announcing the ‘best female artiste’ category on stage during the 16th edition of the ceremony held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta.
Of the 28 award categories, only 13 were revealed on stage, with the remaining 15, including the ‘best female artiste’ category, announced offstage.
Ayra Starr emerged as the winner in the ‘best female artiste’ category, beating out competitors such as Tems, Simi, and Tiwa Savage.
Expressing her dissatisfaction on Twitter, Ayra Starr emphasized the hard work put in by her fellow nominees and stated that they deserved more recognition, refusing to settle for less.
She wrote, ‘I will never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t even deemed fit to be announced on stage!” Ayra Starr wrote.
“Best female artist na beans? We work hard, every single one of us! I have seen Tiwa record 4 hit songs in the same night, Tems breathes and lives for music.
“We didn’t deserve such nonchalance! Nigeria, you didn’t raise me to settle for less.”
