Lagos, Nigeria – July 1, 2023 – Guinea Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló visited President Bola Tinubu at his Ikoyi, Lagos residence, in a show of solidarity and to reinforce the fraternal relations between the two countries.
During the private meeting, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu, Dele Alake, highlighted the significance of President Embaló’s visit, stating that it was an opportunity to strengthen the bond between the two African heads of state, particularly as fellow leaders in West Africa.
President Embaló, who currently serves as the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, commended President Tinubu’s commendable policy initiatives over the past month. He expressed appreciation for the strides made by the Nigerian leader, which have been recognized and applauded by the international community.
Speaking to State House Correspondents, Alake shared that while the visit was private in nature, President Embaló expressed his solidarity and willingness to collaborate with Nigeria under President Tinubu’s leadership.

In response to the visit, President Tinubu expressed his delight in hosting President Embaló and discussed various issues of mutual interest during their pleasant lunch. He also emphasized his commitment to a collaborative and productive relationship with regional partners as Nigeria aims to reclaim its position as the Giant of Africa.
The visit of President Embaló and the warm reception from President Tinubu signify the growing importance of strengthening ties between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau, as well as the broader West African region.
The entourage accompanying President Embaló included his Special Adviser Caramo Camara, Chief of Staff Califa Soares, Diplomatic Advisor Ambassador Alfredo Cabral, and Image Operator Bonifacio Correia. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and Dele Alake were also present during the visit.
