Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), arrived in Nigeria and met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Villa, flanked by Africa’s richest man and CEO, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.
Mr. Gates is scheduled to visit Nigeria and its neighbour, Niger. These visits are a follow-up to his earlier visit to China aimed at discussing global health and development with national and local leaders, foundation partners, grantees, scientists, and young innovators.
Bill Gates will be speaking to Nigerian youths at the Pan-African Youth Innovation Forum themed ” Unleashing Africa’s Innovative Future”, which will take place on the 21st of June, 2023.
The BMGF stated the Foundation’s commitment is “to work closely with communities and leaders to support innovation that can help accelerate progress and improve lives across Africa.”
The statement added: “Gates and other foundation leaders are visiting to learn from partners helping to address polio, anemia, and other health threats; scientists applying research to develop agricultural innovations that will help with food security and climate adaptation; innovators using technology to improve access to financial services; and others working to improve lives in Niger and Nigeria and throughout the continent.”
