Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially lifted the ban on campaign activities for the political parties ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election campaigns officially kick off Wednesday. The candidate of the governing APC, Bola Tinubu, has asked Nigerians to learn from the ‘mistakes of the past. He also urged people to be ‘wise and discerning’.
“We must show that we have learned from mistakes of the past. We must be prepared to make difficult decisions. We must be wise, we must be discerning; we must choose progress.
We must favor reason over sentiment,” Mr. Tinubu said in a message to mark the official commencement of the 2023 presidential election campaign activities across the country.
Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi are the top contenders in the race to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former Lagos governor’s health status has been a major concern with many Nigerians, especially critics questioning his suitability for headship.
Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on Nigerians to join him and his running mate, Senator Kassim Shettima, to set a shared vision of renewed hope for the country.
The adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket has also been a major odd for the APC as the party prepared to start its campaign.
