Lagos State House of Assembly, yesterday, chastised the state Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure, Kabiru Abdullahi, for scorning the lawmakers by refusing to honour an invitation of a committee of the House, which has oversight systems over the ministry.
The lawmakers implored that the House Committee on Waterfront Infrastructure be required to carry out a holistic inquiry of the ministry since Abdullahi’s appointment and also positioned the assurance of the commissioner’s appointment on hold.
However, the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, saved the commissioner from being ratified during plenary.
Obasa, who solicited to the committee and members of the House to reconsider their prayer, urged them to give the commissioner another chance to appear before the House. He directed the Clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko, to write to the commissioner to appear with all necessary documents on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
IN another development, the Lagos Government, through the Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), yesterday, urged residents of Agboyi and Ikosi-Ketu to obtain planning permit before embarking on physical development activities to ensure orderly planning of structures within the state.
General Manager, LASPPPA, Kehinde Osinaike, gave the charge during a stakeholders’ forum organised for members of the Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Councils (CDCs) of the areas in Ketu.
He said that proper physical planning remains a tool for functional communities, hence the need for the people to do the right thing.
Osinaike explained that obtaining necessary permits before any construction work and adhering to the rules and regulations involved in building would bring about a serene environment that is safe and endearing to work and play.
He, therefore, urged the leadership of the CDAs, CDCs and residents of Agboyi and Ikosi-Ketu to support the government’s mission of having a sustainable environment by strictly complying with its regulations and equally reporting anyone found building without a permit.
Chairman, Magodo Phase I CDA, Tangbaju Benson, thanked the state government for the enlightenment session on the benefits of planning permits and for putting in place a regulatory agency that maintains standardisation in construction works across the state.
He advised residents to give the government their full support to enable it actualise the dreams of delivering a functional and safe environment for the people.
