Teniola was born Teniola Apata in Lagos State, on Dec 12, 1992. She hails from Ekiti state and attended Apata Memorial high school before proceeding to American Intercontinental University, Atlanta for her degree in Business Administration and Marketing.
Teniola was born into a family that takes education seriously, however, she and her elder sister, Niniola chose the path of entertainment. Being a lover of music and entertainment, Teniola developed an interest in drumming, and in her early days performed for the likes of Babatunde Fashola, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Mohammed Buba Marwa. As a newbie in the entertainment industry, Teniola was signed on to Shizzi’s record label; Magic Finger, till she later moved to Dr Dolor’s label in 2017. Before then, she made her debut single; Amen, which put her in lime for the spotlight. She finally gained prominence in 2017, when she released her hit single; Fargin, making fans curious about her style of music through the lyrics. In the same year, Teniola established her presence on social media, most especially Instagram with her short music skit and indigenous lyrics.
Shortly after she gained prominence through her 2017 single; Fargin, she became a force to reckon with in the music industry. a lot of comments were also made on whether or not her sister; Niniola was happy with the fact that she had to share a space in the spotlight with her sister. However, Niniola put all tongues to rest as she admitted in an interview with Punch; “You may think we are competitors but sorry to disappoint you, we are not. We are first sisters before any other thing”. In 2017, Teniola went on to greater things as she was awarded the Rookie of the Year Awards at the Headies in 2018. She also won the Most Promising Act to watch at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards, in 2018. In the same year, she was among MTV Base 15th Year-end list of the hottest Naija Track of 2018, as well as Best New Artiste 2018 at the Soundcity MVP awards festival. In February 2018, she was among YouTube’s Music’s Trending Artists on the Rise.
Growing up as a little child, Teniola was influenced by songs from music legends such as; King Wasiu Ayinde, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obe, Osita Odebe and many others. Her music influence is highly visible and evident in her style of music. Her major writing credit is due to Davido’s single; “Like That”. As an entertainer who possesses charisma on stage, Teniola has performed at various shows such as Davido’s 30 billion Concert in December 2017, Her sister show; The Human Radio Concert in 2018, her industry Nite in January and at one of Nigerian Billionaire; Dangote’s Function.
Recently, she nominated for the BET AWARDS as Best New International Act and she had this to say; “I feel amazing, I feel great. I’m so grateful to my fans..Thank you..Shout Out to Viacom and BET”. Some of her hit songs include; AMEN, Pareke, Case, Akamaya, Fargin, Lagos, Kolesi, Obe, Fake Jersey.
