Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen’s name has been removed from the National Judicial Council’s members’ list, according to PUNCH
As at Sunday, the membership list on the NJC website had been altered and Onnoghen’s name was missing.
The list currently displays 23 members instead of the full membership of 24, and the council has no deputy chairman as constitutionally provided.
It is also being reported that Justice Rhodes-Vivour, who is the second most senior Justice of the Supreme Court would be announced as the deputy chairman at the next meeting of the council.
Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad is currently listed as the acting chairman of the NJC, as Onnoghen is now listed on the 16th position on the list of former Chief Justices of Nigeria.
All this comes after the Code of Conduct Tribunal last Thursday convicted Onnoghen on charges of breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Offices and ordered his removal as Chief Justice of Nigeria the chairman of both the NJC and the Federal Judicial Service Commission.
Onnoghen had earlier resigned his post on April 4, as Chief Justice if Nigeria after he was suspended by President Muhammad Buhari.
Muhammad took over as the acting CJN after he was cleared b the NJC and Onnoghen resigned.
