DSTV is commemorating Black History Month by paying homage to black women in leading TV roles. Whether they are making us laugh uncontrollably or bringing the fierce drama, these ladies have given us an array of characters that fellow black women can look up to and relate with. Here are 5 TV shows with black female lead roles.
- Olivia Pope in The Fixer: The business suit wearing bad-ass may not be considered as a role model given her (im)moral choices. - Mary Jane in Being Mary-Jane: Mary-Jane Paul is one of the most relatable black women on television. She epitomizes the struggles of grappling with multiple tensions that life presents to her whilst seemingly having it all. Through it all, she remains graceful and does not give up.
