It has been a fantastic season so far for Chelsea football club as they top the English Premiership league table under their new coach, Antonio Conte.
Last season was a rough one for the London club. They started the league as the champions, having won it in the season before, under the tutelage of their manager then, Jose Mourinho. But they started the preceding season on a poor note and ended 13th on the log. This led to the sack of the “Special One” having just spent two seasons with the blues.
But things have taken a rosy turn with the new manager who had made his name by winning the Italian league back to back with Juventus.
The current 2016 – 2017 season did not start on a good note for Chelsea as they had already lost to Liverpool, Arsenal and West Ham at the beginning, but ever since the coach reverted to the 3 – 4 – 3 formation he used during his successful managerial career at Juventus, Chelsea have not lost a single match since then.

The 3 – 4 – 3 formation is made up of three central defenders, two wing backs (left and right ) who surge forward as wingers at both sides of the field, two central midfielders and three forwards.
Ever since the adoption of this formation that has become the secret ingredient for Chelsea, one player has continued to garner praises and commendations from pundits, managers and players alike, and he is Nigeria’s Victor Moses.
Victor Moses joined Chelsea from Wigan on 23 August 2012, after Chelsea met Wigan’s asking price after four previously unsuccessful bids. On 24 August, 2012, Chelsea announced that the transfer of Moses had been completed. Moses played his first game for Chelsea when he appeared as a substitute against West London rivals Queens Park Rangers on 15 September.
Roberto Di Matteo, who was Chelsea manager then, used Victor Moses in his squad then, he played 37 matches for the blues scoring 4 goals. But Di Matteo was sacked as Chelsea coach before the end of the season, giving way to Rafael Benitez.
Things started badly for Victor Moses after the departure of the coach that bought him to the Cobhams as subsequent coaches saw no usefulness in him.
During 2013 to 14 season he was loaned to Liverpool where he played 19 matches scoring just once. 2014 – 2015 season he was sent on loan again to Stoke City and he played 19 times scored 3 time. Again, 2015 – 2016 season, he was loaned to West Ham and played 21 times scoring once.
Loaning a player out for three consecutive seasons is a clear indication that his service is not needed in the club. It is like a child who is part of a family but always sent away to stay with other extended members of the big family. Psychological imbalance will set in and the child may be frustrated, so it was for Victor Moses spending three years on loan to other clubs.
But this season has seen Victor Moses reemerged as one of the chief corner stones in the triumphing Chelsea team this season. For the past three months, he has been in the starting lineup in every Chelsea match, playing in an unfamiliar position, the right wing back position. But Moses has been excelling in that position as though it was his natural position. Known for his great attacking instinct, Moses has shown some great defensive skills and impact that have kept pundits wondering.
During Chelsea’s EPL match against Man City where the Blues triumphed by three goals to one, Victor Moses made a very key defensive interception of a through ball heading to Aguero, the commentator, who was impressed, said of Victor Moses:
“What a great interception from Victor Moses. How an attacking minded player could do that is beyond me. What a player he has become under Conte!”
Truly Victor Moses has emerged from the oblivion after three years and is taking every match like his last. His work rate, strength and speed are some of the qualities that have shown this season and he can only improve. Just 26 years old, he surely has many years ahead of him to prove to the world that he can be one of the best in the world, but only with consistency.
