An Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the killing of two Bangladeshi gay activists on Monday. Julhas Mannan and Tanay Mojumdar were attacked at their apartment by six men wielding machetes and the building’s security guard was also wounded.

Reuters reports that an outlet of Ansar-Al Islam have claimed responsibility for Monday’s murders. In a Twitter post, the group claimed that Mannan and Mojumdar “the pioneers of practicing and promoting homosexuality in Bangladesh.
They were working day and night to promote homosexuality among the people of this land … with the help of their masters, the US crusaders and their Indian allies,”
Mannan was the editor of Bangladesh’s first LGBT magazine called Rupban. Ansar Al Islam also claimed responsibility for the killing of Nazzumidin Samad.
