Two gay rights activists have been hacked to death in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka on Monday while a third person was seriously injured.
One of the two victims was Julhas Mamman, an editor of ‘Rupban’, an LGBT magazine while the other victim wasย Tanay Mojumdar.
Bangladesh has faced an increasing wave of extremism as attackers target atheists as well as secular writers. Just last week, a University Professor was hacked to death and barely two weeks before that, a 28 year old student was hacked to death after he put up a Facebook post criticizing Islam.
Monday’s attacks were reportedly carried out ย by six men who posed as couriers to access Mamman’s apartment before hacking him to death with machetes. The security guard at the apartment was also attacker but managed to escape with injuries.
