WORLD CANCER DAY is commemorated globally by millions of people on 4th February, with cancer awareness walk, fund-raising, launching of advocacy, research grants, panels of discussion and otherwise. It is an initiative of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the largest cancer community with over 900 member organization; of which the Federal Ministry of Health is a member.
Federal Ministry of Health through her National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) collaborated with Project PINK BLUE commemorate the World Cancer Day 2016 bringing high-level oncologists, cancer survivors and the press for WORLD CANCER DAY 2016 Ministerial Press Briefing and panel of discussion to share what we already know about cancer and what we can do to find cure while reducing late detection of cancer. It took place at Sheraton Hotel Abuja, 4th February, 2016, 8:00am.
Prof. Isaac F. Adewole, Honourable Minister of Health, who presented Nigeria’s World Cancer Day 2016 Press Briefing (Please find attached) promised to make cancer control a health priority. Other dignitaries were: Hon. Muhammed Usman, Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Health Services; Dr. E. Osagie Ehanire, Honorable Minister of State; Dr. Amina M. B. Shaman , permanent secretary of FMoH, Runcie C.W. Chidebe, Executive Director of Project PINK BLUE (find attached his welcome address).
World Cancer Day 2016 commemoration will continue with WALK, RACE & CYCLE against Cancer on Saturday 6th February, 2016 at Sheraton Abuja Hotel, 7:00am, with Sen. Alhassan A. Jummai, Honorable Minister of Women Affairs leading the Walk, Race & Cycle against Cancer withChidinma “Miss Kedieke”, Annie Idibia and Toke Makinwa. The event is a platform to raise funds for Ms. Comfort Oyayi Daniel, a 34 year old single lady who was diagnosed of breast cancer, she already done her mastectomy (breast removal), but needs funds to start her chemotherapy.
Free Breast, Cervical, Prostate cancer screenings will be available for everyone.
