In recognition of Computer Science Education Week, the 2015 Hour of Code officially begun today. This year, CcHUB is excited to participate in the programme of activities.
The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. An annual global event, the Hour of Code is organised to teach people both young and old, and has so far engaged over 100 million people in different places around the world.
The Hour of Code at CcHUB holds this Saturday and is open to kids aged 5-18 years. This year, CcHUB is providing the opportunity for kids to be paired up with individuals in the technology industry to mentor them through the Hour of Code activities. Parents can sign up their kids to attend the event for free, while volunteers can also sign up to mentor kids. Mentors can either be University undergraduates or professionals.
Why Code?
Learning computer science doesn’t just end isn’t limited to learning technical skills but helps kids develop other skills critical to the 21st century. Learning to code provides kids with tools to express their creativity, while helping them develop skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration.
Activities for both kids that have no programming experience as well as kids who know how to code have been put together to engage kids of different levels and ages. Kids who have no programming experience are particularly encouraged to attend.
