In one of the more drastic moves by the Zambian government to shore up a falling Kwacha, Zambia’s President has declared a national prayer day to pray for the Zambian currency.
President Edgar Lungu declared a national prayer day last month following the Kwacha falling up to 45% against the dollar. Bars and football matches were shut on the day as prayers were made to save the ailing economy.
The Kwacha has fallen the hardest against the dollar primarily because of a fall in the price of copper, Zambia’s major export.
In seemingly admitting his helplessness, President Lungu asked for Zambians with “Brilliant ideas” to come forward to help solve the economic crisis.
