Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila, the majority leader of the House of Representatives will surely breathe a sigh of relief after an election Tribunal sitting in Lagos upheld his victory.
The petition was brought to the Lagos state assembly election Tribunal by a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tony Ashikodi, who polled 14, 550 votes to emerge the first runner-up.
Femi Gbajabiamila represents the Surulere federal constituency 1 where he polled 21,715 votes to win the election.
Tony Ashikodi asked the Tribunal to nullify Gbajabiamila’s Victory on the basis of electoral irregularities.
After submission by Ashikodi’s counsel, the The Justice C.U Anwuka-led three-man tribunal rejected the petition and claimed that the petitioner failed to prove his claims beyond reasonable doubt.
