X has retired its Creator Revenue Sharing program, ending the payment system that rewarded eligible creators for engagement on their posts. The platform officially ended Creator Revenue Sharing on September 7, 2026, after announcing the change in August.
Existing participants continued earning through September 7 under the previous monetisation structure. X also scheduled a final payout for earnings accumulated through September 7, with payment expected around September 11. Meanwhile, the company has introduced its new Original Content Rewards program for eligible creators.
This new system focuses on original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, commentary, and other creator-led content. Starting September 8, existing Revenue Sharing members began gaining access to apply for Original Content Rewards.
However, previous participation does not automatically guarantee acceptance into the replacement program.
Creators must satisfy the new eligibility requirements before joining the monetisation system. Applicants need at least 500 verified followers and 500,000 qualifying Home Timeline impressions within 90 days. They must also maintain an eligible Premium subscription and comply with X’s rules.
Additionally, X wants creators to publish content that reflects their own voice, expertise, perspectives, or creativity. Copied posts, recycled videos, and content without meaningful transformation may not qualify under the new system.
For creators, the change represents a major shift in how X approaches platform monetisation. The old Creator Revenue Sharing model rewarded engagement, while the replacement places stronger emphasis on originality.
Consequently, creators may need to rethink their content strategies to remain eligible for future earnings. Nigerian creators can also participate if they meet the programme’s requirements and operate within an eligible country.
X says qualifying content can include posts, articles, videos, images, graphics, memes, and other original formats. The platform has therefore moved away from its previous revenue-sharing structure. For creators, originality now carries greater importance when building sustainable income on X.
The Creator Revenue Sharing program has officially ended, but creator monetisation continues through the new system.
Users should check Creator Studio for eligibility and application access under Original Content Rewards. The transition marks another major change in X’s evolving approach to creator payments.
