Lionel Messi has agreed in principle to purchase Spanish second-tier club C.D. Eldense as he continues to expand his growing football ownership portfolio.
The Inter Miami forward is close to completing a deal to buy 100% of the shares held by Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., Eldense’s current majority shareholder.
The deal would make Messi the majority owner of a second club in Spain. The 39-year-old already bought fifth-tier side UE Cornella on April 16, 2026.
Reports from Spain said on Tuesday that Messi could complete the Eldense deal in the coming days. However, the club said the takeover still needs to pass through some legal steps.
“At this time, the operation is pending completion of the final legal and contractual procedures, including the corresponding due diligence process, as well as the mandatory authorisation from the High Council for Sports (CSD),” Eldense told Reuters.
Eldense said it could not provide a fixed date for the deal’s completion. TH Soluciones Group has also been contacted for comment.
Messi’s planned takeover comes as Eldense struggle in Spain’s Segunda division. The club currently sits 20th in the standings.
TH Soluciones Group took control of Eldense last October. The club has since continued its rise through Spanish football after spending years in the regional divisions.
Messi’s move into club ownership adds another part to his football career. The Argentine star continues to play for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer. He could also receive a stake in the club when his playing contract expires.
If Messi completes the Eldense takeover, he will own two Spanish clubs while continuing his playing career in the United States.
