Days after being freed from EFCC prison, Nigerian internet critic Vincent Martins Otse, better known online as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has openly responded to fresh charges against him.

VDM was arrested at a GTBank branch in Abuja and held for six days before being released on May 7, 2025. Speaking out following his release, he asserted that there is a deliberate attempt to have him imprisoned and wrongly accused.

He claimed to have accepted the EFCC’s offer to be questioned for four hours on May 12.

A woman known as Princess Barbara Odoh allegedly accused him of stealing intellectual property during the session.

VeryDarkman said that the accusation was related to his campaign against online vendor fraud, which he says already constitutes a significant portion of his platform. He clarified:

“On reaching EFCC, they brought up one allegation against me that is very crazy.”

He said that he made significant investments in his concept to lessen internet frauds while he was in China and that his work had assisted numerous victims in getting their money back.

He asked how he could be accused of stealing her idea by Odoh, who he said doesn’t have any internet presence.

“This woman is alleging that the idea is her idea. Madam how is it your idea? This is what I do, this is what I use my platform to do in this country, I have a very big platform, people get scammed and I make sure they get their money back. I’ve collected millions. I know how many millions I have helped people recover. You this madam that you’re claiming it’s your idea, who knows you? Who are you in the scheme of things? What have you ever done? How much have you helped somebody to recover for you to claim that this idea is your idea?”

VeryDarkman argued that the accusations appear to be part of a deliberate attempt to frame him and stressed that any claims against him should at least be serious.

“If una wan hold me, make una find something very big, no be all these ones, I big pass all these things.”

He also spoke about his broader mission and personal pride in his work:

“My pride in all of this is to beat my chest and say I did something in this country before I leave this world.”

VDM concluded by promising legal action against Odoh and said he would also pursue traditional justice.

“Madam you go go court and you go swear juju.”
