Saida Boj Faces Backlash Over Comments On VeryDarkman’s Arrest

Following remarks she made in response to the arrest of vocal campaigner and internet celebrity VeryDarkMan (VDM) by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), well-known influencer Saida Boj is coming under further fire.

Saida adopted a different position after a number of celebrities and internet personalities expressed worries regarding due process and openness in VDM’s incarceration.

Citing her personal experience with VDM’s previous actions, she stated that she would not participate in the advocacy activities.

Saida revealed in a video that she later removed that she had been asked to speak out about VDM’s predicament but had refused.

She used a previous instance in which she publicly defended him and felt unacknowledged to support her decision.

She described VDM as “ungrateful,” adding that she was under no duty to speak out again.

A Nigerian woman’s video reaction swiftly went viral before being taken down from many sites, sparking a surge of criticism for her stance.

In her forceful response, the woman chastised Saida for focussing on a more general problem that, in her opinion, was about unfairness rather than individual acknowledgement.

“Saida Boj, take the back seat. In fact, keep moving… go outside. Stay by the window because I need to educate you,” she began.

The woman stressed that public concern for VDM’s case stemmed from principle, not personal attachment.

“It is about police brutality. It’s about people weaponizing the police force and the EFCC against Nigerian citizens,” she emphasized.

She also cited VDM’s earlier work saving trafficking young girls from other African countries, which she believed Saida had forgotten.

“Voice of the girl child? You don’t even know what that means,” she said, calling into question Saida’s credibility as a women’s advocate.

The woman didn’t hold back in criticizing what she perceived as Saida’s ego and entitlement.

“What is this entitlement mentality I’m seeing all over social media? You thinking your voice alone can make an impact is laughable.”

She ended her video by dismissing Saida’s input entirely: “Remain outside while this is over. If you want education, I’ll educate you. More wisdom.”

Online discussions concerning the abuse of power by Nigerian authorities and the function of influencers in speaking out against injustice have been heightened by the public debate.

Some say that Saida’s comments come at a time when the need for collective voices is greatest, while others support her decision to stay out of the debate.

According to the most recent information, VeryDarkMan is still being held by the EFCC, despite growing demands for justice and openness in the legal system.
