Trump Says He Could Pardon Elon Musk If Democrats Win Midterm Elections

President Donald Trump has suggested he could pardon Elon Musk if Democrats win control of Congress during America’s upcoming midterm elections. Trump made the remarks during an interview with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine on her Pod Force One podcast, released Monday.

When asked whether he would protect Musk against potential investigations or prosecution, Trump dismissed suggestions that Democrats could target the billionaire entrepreneur. The president insisted that Musk would not face arrest, promising protection if Democratic lawmakers pursued investigations involving his businesses or associates.

Trump also indicated he would consider preemptive pardons for former and current administration officials if Democrats launched investigations against his allies. Asked whether he would issue pardons when necessary, Trump responded affirmatively, referencing his previous decision to pardon January 6 Capitol riot defendants.

The president previously granted pardons to approximately 1,500 people charged over their involvement in the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack. Additionally, Trump referenced former President Joe Biden’s controversial decision to issue preemptive pardons to several family members and officials.

The comments come as Democrats prepare potential congressional investigations into Trump’s administration, government activities, and individuals associated with his presidency. Several Democratic lawmakers have discussed investigating Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, should their party regain congressional control.

Meanwhile, Musk has reportedly supported Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections, spending substantial amounts to influence important congressional races. Trump’s latest comments highlight his willingness to protect influential allies as political tensions intensify ahead of America’s November elections.

However, presidential pardons only cover federal offences and cannot prevent state prosecutions, civil lawsuits, or congressional impeachment proceedings.
