Toyin Abraham, the Nigerian filmmaker, has rejected her nomination to the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council in Lagos State, saying she is “staying out of politics”.
Abraham’s name appeared on a list shared by the media team of Obafemi Hamzat, Lagos deputy governor, on Thursday.
The list named celebrities appointed to the entertainment and creative economy directorate of the campaign council.
However, Abraham denied her involvement in the council in a post on X. She also asked the public to disregard reports linking her to the campaign.
“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently; I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she wrote.
Lawyer Toke Benson-Awoyinka heads the directorate, while veteran actor Jide Kosoko serves as co-director. Actress Eniola Badmus was also listed as deputy director.
Other celebrities on the list include Biola Adebayo, Bimbo Akintola, Yinka Quadri, Foluke Daramola, Abbey Lanre and Fathia Balogun.
Adewale Ayuba, Abass Akande Obesere, Saheed Osupa, Adebayo Salami, Bukky Wright, Sule Alao Malaika and Small Doctor also appeared on the list.
Abraham’s decision comes after she faced backlash in 2024 over her support for President Bola Tinubu.
Following the controversy, she vowed never to publicly reveal her political affiliation.
In April, Abraham was also named on the entertainment committee for the National Women Mega Empowerment and Rally 2026.
The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs organised the event.
Despite her earlier inclusion, Abraham has now made her position clear on the APC campaign council.
