Three Years Since Twitter Became X: What Has Changed Under Elon Musk

Three years since Twitter became X, Elon Musk’s ambitious vision continues reshaping the platform into a broader digital ecosystem serving millions worldwide today. The historic rebrand officially launched on July 23, 2023, replacing Twitter’s iconic blue bird logo with the distinctive X identity globally.

Musk purchased Twitter for forty-four billion dollars during October 2022 after months of negotiations, legal disputes, and widespread public attention everywhere. He explained the acquisition would accelerate plans for building an everything app combining communication, payments, artificial intelligence, and digital services together.

Since then, X has introduced creator monetization, subscription revenue sharing, longer posts, extended video uploads, and premium verification for eligible users. Additionally, Community Notes became a central feature, allowing users to provide crowd-sourced fact-checking instead of relying solely on platform moderators completely.

Developers also open-sourced parts of X’s recommendation algorithm, giving researchers and users greater transparency into content recommendation systems worldwide today. Meanwhile, the platform improved direct messaging, expanded live streaming, enhanced Grok artificial intelligence integration, and upgraded creator publishing tools significantly.

Engineers rebuilt the Android application during 2026, delivering better reliability, smoother performance, faster loading speeds, and improved overall user experience consistently.

Three years since Twitter became X, many users still casually call the platform Twitter despite its permanent transition to the X brand. Debates surrounding free speech, misinformation, moderation policies, and political discussions continue shaping opinions about Musk’s leadership across the platform daily.

Nevertheless, X remains among the world’s most influential social media platforms while steadily pursuing Musk’s long-term everything app vision for global users.
