Taylor Swift’s new song for “Toy Story 5,” titled “I Knew It, I Knew You,” debuted on digital streaming platforms on Thursday night.
The track marks Swift’s return to her country roots. It also celebrates Jessie, one of Pixar’s most popular characters. The song tells the story of a joyful reunion and is expected to play a key role in the upcoming film.
Swift Shares Personal Connection
As the song arrived on streaming services, Swift shared a message on social media. She posted a childhood video of herself wearing a red cowgirl hat and reflected on the project.
“Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”
The singer described the project as both exciting and familiar. She also highlighted her lifelong love for the “Toy Story” franchise.
Tribute to the ‘Toy Story’ Team
Swift thanked filmmaker Andrew Stanton for bringing her into the project. She also praised composer Randy Newman, whose music has shaped the franchise for decades.
“Thank you to the brilliant Andrew Stanton for imagining me for this, all those years ago, when you wrote this newest film. Thank you to the incomparable @randynewmanofficial for the gorgeous sonic tapestry of songs and scores you’ve meticulously woven over the years. You created the Toy Story musical world, and we are lucky to get to live in it. By we, I mean myself and my pal @jackantonoff. We wrote this with so much adoration for these characters that made us laugh and helped us learn lessons and think outside the backyard throughout our childhoods.”
Collaboration With Jack Antonoff
Swift co-wrote and co-produced the song with Jack Antonoff. The collaboration marks their first work together since “The Tortured Poets Department.”
The song has already generated strong interest among fans. CD and vinyl editions sold out on Swift’s website before their limited sales windows ended.
“Toy Story 5” will premiere on June 9 before opening in theatres on June 18.
