Life in its real form is a bed of roses but people are so focused on the pain and stings of its thorns that we don’t see the true beauty of life. Life doesn’t always come easy and for every goal we achieve, we have to endure the various steps and levels of Life itself. We should however note that perseverance and hard work pay if only we #ProgressWithJoy.
Below is a list of Nigerians who have endured and persevered through hard work and are #ProgressingWithJoy:
Joseph Benjamin: It took conducting buses, to selling clothes, to waiting and finally here we are. He has become a household name in Nollywood as he has graced our screens in many ways from modeling to acting. Despite all he still #ProgressWithJoy as he is on the lips of everyone.
Olajumoke Orisaguna:Without a doubt, she can be said to be an African Cinderella. She was a bread seller on the streets of Yaba, Lagos who recently stumbled upon Tinie Tempah’s photoshoot and afterwards became the most sought after model and media personality in Nigeria. It is hard to believe the huge transformations going on in her life as she #ProgressWithJoy on her modeling career.
Enetimi Alfred Odion: Before he became the Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa and one of the bigwigs of the Nigerian music industry, he was a plaintain seller and his mother’s source of joy like he said in one of his songs. Between finding fame and making music as rookie, he was a backup vocalist for Eedris Abdulkareem, but with a clear mindset he did #ProgressWithJoy and now we all know him as Timaya.
Olamide Adedeji: Arguably, one of the biggest entertainers of Nigerian music industry, Olamide has morphed from a Bariga Boy whose mother would exchange old clothes and shoes for paltry sums of cash. With five music albums and sold-out concerts globally, Olamide has #ProgressWithJoy to be one of the finest musicians the industry has produced in recent times.
Chidinma Ekile: Who would have thought that a vocal powerhouse will come out from the neighborhood of Ketu, Lagos? Oh yes, but it did happen and we do have MTN Project Fame to thank for handling quickly to us the demure Chidinma or Miss Kedike as she is known these days. In spite of her rising fame as one of the female divas, she continues her pursuit of academic garlands as a Unilag undergraduate and we are most certain that she will #ProgressWithJoy to even greater things.
Mercy Johnson: Her dad was an ex-military officer and she basically grew up in a military environment. She attended Navy primary and secondary schools until she went to the Lagos State University.Her family moved into an uncompleted building and had to take cover whenever it rained because of the condition of the house; while her brother did menial jobs as bricklaying to earn a living, they would roll over a stick to cover the windowsup on till shestarted acting,she #ProgressWithJoy and raised money to complete the building.
P-Square: Peter of P-Square once worked asa supermarket attendant & Paul did some electrical repairs for pay.Their mother used to sell pap and their father tried to set up a bakery. After school, they would go to the bakery to see how they could help out. There were six boys and two girls living in a one-room apartment, that should tell you how bad things were for them. Daily feeding budget was N100 which comprised of breakfast N30, lunch N30 and supper N30, the remaining N10 usually goes for water. They moved to Lagos in 2004 and they have since then preserved and#ProgressWithJoy.
Collins Ajereh: Better known as Don Jazzy, he was born in Umuahia in Abia State but he is originally from Delta State.His family moved to Ajegunle City in Lagos State where he was raised, and graduated from Federal Government College, Lagos. He moved to London in the United Kingdom in 2000 after his Uncle invited him to come play the drums for the neighborhood Church. Various odd jobs followed including working at McDonalds as a security guard. After the closeof his first music label in 2011, he #ProgressWithJoy and started the very popular MAVIN Label.
2face Idibia: Homeless might not be a subtle word to describe the beginning of his life but he stood strong as he #ProgressWithJoy and today is a legend in the music and entertainment industry.
John Okafor(Mr Ibu): In his words “once you are poor,you are poor”. From selling fire wood to hair dressing to assembling wooden crates of minerals, the actor had a tough time while growing up, it was this petty jobs however that sustained him through his years at IMT, Enugu where he studied Mass Communication. Hestarted acting funny roles in movie skits, and has since then #ProgressWithJoy and now he is recognized internationally.
