In a world where schedules barely pause, and expectations keep piling up, the conversation around rest is slowly shifting, and it’s one that Funke Akindele continues to lean into with honesty and simplicity.
The award-winning actress used her “Self-Care Saturday” reminder to highlight something many people quietly struggle with: the habit of putting everyone else first while pushing personal well-being to the background. For her, self-care is not something extra to be earned after exhaustion sets in, but something that should naturally sit within everyday life.
She pointed out that a lot of women especially carry invisible weight, family duties, work pressure, emotional support for others, and the constant need to “keep going” even when they are running on empty. Over time, that pattern can lead to burnout without people even noticing how drained they’ve become.
Her message was grounded in simple realities. Self-care, she explained, does not have to come with a price tag or a glamorous routine. Sometimes it is as basic as getting proper sleep after a long week, stepping outside for fresh air, taking a break from noise, or choosing prayer and quiet reflection to reset the mind. Small actions, but powerful enough to restore balance.
