Protesters Take To The Streets To Celebrate The Anniversary Of The Arab Spring In Egypt

The Arab Spring of 2011 is a reference point for many countries. While many remain divided on its real impact, the fact remains that it serves as a reminder that the people of diverse countries threw out oppressive regimes.

Egyptians have not had much luck, seemingly trading one dictator for another and then another.

The ouster of Hosni Mubarak saw the emergence of Mohammed Morsi who had strong ties to the Muslim brotherhood which has now been labeled a ‘terrorist group’.

Another uprising led to his removal and his subsequent replacement with Fattah El-Sisi. El-Sisi has been criticized as being heavy handed with numerous reports of human rights allegations.

Despite a security crackdown, Anti-government protesters took to the streets to commemorate the toppling of Hosni Mubarak’s regime.
There are concerns that growing dissatisfaction with El-Sisi would lead to a 2011 type uprising again.

El-Sisi has insisted however that his government remains committed to the aspirations of the 2011 uprising.
