Ahead of the governorship election on Saturday, June 18, 2022, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has said that the heavy deployment of security agencies is not intended to scare voters and cause apathy on election day.
Speaking at the police stakeholders meeting in the state capital on Tuesday, Baba said the security measures were taken to ensure a free, fair, and credible election that is acceptable to all stakeholders involved.
The IGP however urged voters in the state to conduct themselves respectfully.
Also, speaking at the meeting with political party representatives, the INEC
Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu assured every process of the electoral provision will be followed diligently.
He assured the stakeholders that the commission will maintain and protect the transparency and security of the process to ensure the election follows the constitution and provisions of the Electoral Act.”
