Arsenal playmaker, Mesut Ozil has sent a cryptic message to Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, making it known he was not giving up on playing for Arsenal.
Since Emery took over from Arsene Wenger in the summer, he has been trying to stamp his own signature on the team, with Ozil as one of the scapegoat of the new blueprint, as the German playmaker has found playing time hard to come by.
While Emery might have been justified with his selection at the beginning of the season as Arsenal went on a 22 games winning streak, results since then have been less than palatable, with the latest being a loss to Belarusian team, BATE. But more worrying, is the performance that has done a huge nosedive, as Arsenal look closer to Sam Alladyce’s Bolton than the brand Arsene Wenger built.
All of these have resulted in an atmosphere almost akin to the WOB and AKB war of years gone by, that many thought would die off after the exit of Arsene Wenger. It is back and threatens to cut short Emery’s era even before it began.
Ozil, who unsurprisingly, did not travel to Belarus for the Europa league tie took to his social media page to show his support and love for the Arsenal. Quoting Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, who remains a much loved and revered person among Arsenal faithfuls, Ozil wrote:
‘When you start supporting a football club, you don’t support it because of the trophies, or a player, or history, you support it because you found yourself somewhere there; found a place where you belong.’ || #DennisBergkamp”
