Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Elected Nigerian Bar Association President, Makes History

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya NBA President became reality after lawyers overwhelmingly elected her to lead the Nigerian Bar Association nationwide today. She secured about forty-seven percent of votes during electronic voting, defeating other candidates and claiming a historic victory.

Her success makes her the first woman directly elected Nigerian Bar Association president in the association’s long history. Badejo-Okusanya also becomes only the second female NBA president after Dame Priscilla Kuye served between 1991 and 1992.

Her election ends a remarkable thirty-five-year wait for another woman to occupy the association’s highest leadership position nationwide.

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya NBA President reflects growing recognition of women comprising over sixty percent of Nigeria’s legal profession today. She attained the prestigious Senior Advocate of Nigeria rank during 2025 after years of distinguished legal practice nationwide.

Her experience includes serving as Lagos State General Counsel while handling complex legal matters across government and private practice. Badejo-Okusanya chaired the record-breaking 2024 Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference, earning widespread praise for exceptional organizational leadership.

Legal practitioners expect her administration to strengthen judicial independence, professional ethics, legal education, and lawyers’ welfare across Nigeria.
