A doctor who died after vomiting blood on Monday has been confirmed to have died of Lassa fever.

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching hospital confirmed today that tests have revealed that the resident doctor died of Lassa fever.

A new outbreak of lassa fever has been reported across several states in Nigeria even as the Ministry of health has set up a committee to handle the outbreak.

A patient receiving treatment for Lassa fever was said to have escaped from the hospital earlier today.
