Actress and producer Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has donated the N22 million net proceeds from her cinema movie, A Mother’s Love, to the NGO Slum to School.
Omotola disclosed this in a video shared online. She also gave fans a breakdown of the film’s cinema earnings.
The movie grossed N103,094,633 during its cinema run. However, several deductions reduced the amount that went to the producers.
These included payments to exhibitors and distributors, advertising costs, VAT, entertainment tax and withholding tax.
After the deductions, the producers received N22 million from the movie’s cinema earnings.
Omotola said her production company, Red Hot Concepts, had promised to donate part of the proceeds to Slum to School.
“Our last cinema run was on the 19th of April; it was a beautiful day. I had a nice time at the cinema, and it was my first time doing cinema runs. It was a challenge, but I rose to the challenge, I believe. You know, as a producer, you have to show up, and that was a challenge I wasn’t ready for.
“Unfortunately, that week, I had to pull the movie out of the cinema because of pressing issues. I know I would do the movie a disservice if I left it in the cinemas, and I wouldn’t have the time to promote it or be there in the cinemas, as the culture was or is at this time.
Why she pulled the movie from cinemas
The actress said she had to end the cinema run earlier than planned because of pressing issues.
She explained that keeping the movie in cinemas without enough time to promote it would have affected its performance.
“At the end of our run, we had made a N103, 094, 633. After deduction from exhibitors, value added tax VAT, entertainment tax, withholding tax, and every other thing. The money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s Love was N22 million. Ten per cent of that money, as promised by Red Hot, was donated to the NGO ” Slum to School”.
Omotola described the cinema experience as a new challenge for her as a producer.
