Nottingham Forest Thrashes Wolves: Taiwo Awoniyi Moved To Tears As He Ends His 324-Day Goal Drought

Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, recently trended on social media after his cameo performance for his premier side helped Nottingham Forest defeat high-flying Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Taiwo Awoniyi has been at Nottingham Forest since moving from Union Berlin in 2022 but has had a tough time hacking it in the English Premier League (EPL).

The Nigerian striker got a cameo performance for Nottingham Forest in their game against Wolves and finally scored his first goal of the 2024/2025 EPL season. After scoring, images of Taiwo Awoniyi being moved to tears as he celebrated his first goal in 324 days have gone viral.

Awoniyi last scored a goal for Nottingham Forest last February in the 2023/2024 season in a 2-0 win over West Ham United.

The Nigerian striker had been reduced to a bit-part role this season due to the impressive form of Chris Wood, who has netted 12 goals for Forest. However, Awoniyiโ€™s goal marked a timely return to the scoresheet as his team went level on points with Arsenal in second place.

This goal brings Awoniyiโ€™s total Premier League goals to 17, moving him ahead of Odion Ighalo (16) into 11th place on Nigeriaโ€™s all-time top scorersโ€™ list in the English Premier League.

In addition to Awoniyiโ€™s contribution, his compatriot Olaย Ainaย continued his excellent form for Nottingham Forest, making his 20th consecutive Premier League start. Aina has been a key performer in Forestโ€™s defence, helping them secure their sixth consecutive league win.

Nottingham Forestโ€™s six-match winning streak is the longest of any team in the Premier League this season. This victory also marked their first six-match winning run in the top flight since 1967, and their best since 1979. The win pushed Forest into third place in the Premier League, level on points with second-placed Arsenal, and four points ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea, strengthening their hopes of a top-four finish.

Below is the post shared by Taiwo Awoniyi to celebrate his first EPL goal of the season:
