Afro-house singer Niniola Apata is returning to music months after the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, with a new single titled O Du Mi.
The singer will release the emotional song on Friday. She described it as an outlet for feelings she could not express in words.
“Some feelings are too deep for words. So I put them in a song,” she wrote while sharing a preview of the song.
The release marks Niniola’s first musical outing since Ndika died in May 2026. He was her husband of 13 years and also worked as her longtime manager.
Niniola’s return to music has been gradual. She has slowly stepped back into the public space and returned to performing.
The singer recently appeared on stage again, where she connected with an audience through music. She was also spotted at her younger sister Teniola Apata’s album launch. The sisters shared a touching moment at the event.
Niniola has made it clear that returning to the stage does not mean her grief has disappeared.
“There are no words for a moment like this, but I know he’d want me to keep singing, to keep showing up, and to keep sharing the gift we’ve always believed in.”
Niniola announced Ndika’s death in May through a series of emotional posts.
“God took him,” she wrote before adding, “My husband died.”
Ndika was the CEO of NaijaReview. He also worked closely with Niniola as her manager.
In the weeks after his death, Niniola shared more about her grief. She described Ndika as her best friend, confidant, pillar, business partner and husband.
