Nigerian Author and feminist; Chimamanda Adichie has bagged an honorarium from the Georgetown University as the Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa.
In her years as an author and a speaker, this would be the 9th honorary degree received by Adichie from a major US university in recognition of her exceptional achievements through the years. Recently she gave her commencement speech at the American University, Washington DC. She said;
“I am very honoured to be your commencement speaker today.” This is a platform that I have been given because of my work as a writer and years ago when I started writing stories in little notebooks as a child, I was doing what I loved. I was escaping into an imaginative world and I could not have possibly imagined that I would one day be standing here before you”
Present at the ceremony where she was also awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa include; President of the American University, Sylvia Burwell, Chairman Board of Trustees, Jack C. Cassell Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Peter Starr, Provost, Daniel J. Myers.
