Nigeria Confirmed as Host of 2026 CAF Awards and 48th CAF General Assembly

Nigeria is set to welcome some of the biggest names in African football once again after securing the rights to host both the 2026 CAF Awards and the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly. The approval, backed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marks another major moment for the country’s growing influence in continental football administration.

The decision was confirmed after a high-level meeting involving CAF President Patrice Motsepe and Nigerian representatives on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi. The gathering reportedly focused on strengthening football development across Africa and expanding Nigeria’s role in major CAF activities.

The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is expected to attract delegates and football administrators from all 54 member associations under the Confederation of African Football. Important discussions surrounding African football development, competitions, finance, and future projects are expected to take place during the assembly.

The CAF Awards, on the other hand, will once again place Nigeria at the centre of African football celebrations as top players, coaches, clubs, and national teams across the continent will be honoured for their performances during the year. The glamorous ceremony has grown into one of the biggest football events in Africa, attracting global attention from fans, media organisations, and football stakeholders.

Nigeria previously hosted the CAF Awards in 2017, with the event receiving praise for its organisation and atmosphere. Many football fans believe the return of both major CAF events further reflects confidence in Nigeria’s ability to stage international sporting gatherings successfully.
