In order to prevent/end the stigmatization of Covid-19 patients, the National Human Rights Commission issued guidelines for the purpose of protecting the fundamental human rights of Covid-19 patients.
This was announced by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Tony Ojukwu during a press conference where he also stated that “no patient shall be stigmatized for reason of being positive to Covid-19 or on account of suffering from other diseases, ailment or any other condition whatsoever”. Also, the Commission stated that health centres should be referred to treatment centres instead of isolation centres so that Covid-19 patients won’t be mentally and psychologically stressed.
