Barcelona forward Neymar Junior appeared before a judge yesterday as reports indicate that prosecutors are recommending that he should be charged with tax fraud.
The allegations span a seven year period of 2006 to 2013 while he still played in Brazil and he allegedly avoided paying taxes by setting up several companies as fronts to receive income.
There is also a separate investigation into his transfer from Brazilian club Santos to Barcelona in 2013.
Prosecutors say that a four count charge against Neymar will be recommended as well as his father and the President of Barcelona football club,Josep Bartomeu.
Barcelona’s former President Sandro Rossell will also likely be charged with tax fraud.
Last month, another Barcelona player, Javier Mascherano was found guilty of tax evasion and was fined and sentenced to a year in prison.
