The first look at Scooby-Doo: Origins has been revealed, with Netflix introducing the iconic Mystery Inc. crew featuring McKenna Grace as Daphne while notably keeping the beloved Great Dane out of sight.
Currently filming in Atlanta, the live-action series offers fans an early glimpse of the gang, including Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred. Scooby-Doo himself is absent from the visuals, likely due to ongoing VFX work to bring the animated character to life.
Billed as a “modern reimagining” of the decades-spanning Scooby-Doo franchise, the eight-episode series explores the origins of the mystery-solving team and the case that brought them together.
“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” the logline reads. “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Paul Walter Hauser also stars, taking on the role of Scooby-Doo’s owner, as the series leans into a darker, more suspense-driven origin story.
