Afrofusion sensation, Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, has weighed in on the growing controversy surrounding the remix of “Laho,” the fast-growing global hit by his junior colleague, Shallipopi.
In a recent statement, Burna Boy clarified the timeline and circumstances behind the release of Laho II, the official remix that was released on April 25, 2025.
According to him, the collaborative version was actually recorded well before Shallipopi’s solo release.
However, due to delays in clearing necessary permissions and rights, the remix couldn’t be released as initially planned.
As a result, the solo version was put out first, which went on to achieve significant success both locally and globally, before the remix finally saw the light of day.

Burna Boy shared this revelation on his social media handle:
“So after all these years y’all still don’t know me enough? If this “Laho” was the remix then l’d go first lol. This was actually the original version, It just couldn’t be cleared for the time he wanted to release cuz it clashed with other releases that had to do with me. Na the remix Shalli first drop, this is the original. Shallipopi ft Burna boy LAHO 2 dropping today at 12am.”
The release of the remix builds on the momentum of the original track’s commercial success, which has rapidly gained international attention.
Currently, it is widely being hailed as Afrobeats’ first major global hit of 2025, solidifying its place on charts and playlists around the world.
