There is something about this year’s MTN Project Fame. That, if you have been following the show, is the continuous improvement of the contestants. First was Geoffrey’s jaw-dropping stage mastery; then Clement’s insistence on fighting-on despite a broken leg.
Now, who could have thought Emeka, who faced one of the fiercest criticisms at the beginning of the reality show, would soon become one of the best contestants in the academy. The student of the Abia State University did incredibly well at the weekend.
His song was Flavour’s ‘Ada Ada’. He delivered it with such mastery and originality that wowed the expansive audience who have developed so much affinity with the show than any others. Within a twinkling of the eyes they were all on their feet singing along with the contestant as the shout of ‘Emekus’ rented the air.
Quite, amazing too, was the creativity of the organisers who selected a choice props of a master settee and a dais to match the cultural background of the song. This is not the first time though; time and again, Project Fame has continued to delight its audience with exceptional creativity and stage planning.
As the race towards the eventual emergence of the winner gets more and more intense, great performances like the one exhibited by Emeka on Sunday, are expected to constantly grace the show.
Perhaps, the improvement in the academy explains the goodwill of the telecommunications company, MTN, which consistently invests in building human capital for West Africa by helping hone the skills and talents of the youth population in the Sub region.
However, despite the great performances at the weekend, Emeka (6), Clement (2), Laami (10), Taiwo, (17), Christian (1), Ogechi (14), Shola (16), Ruky (15), Flourish (7), Geoffrey (8), Ugo (18) and Debbie (4) – all contestants – will need the viewers votes, once again, to continue their stay on the show as any of them with the least number of votes faces the risk of elimination next weekend. Viewers can text their favourite contestants’ unique numbers to 306 or 1745(Ghana), via an MTN line, to keep them in the academy.
