Michelle Alozie deactivated Instagram after intense criticism followed Nigeria’s WAFCON and World Cup failure against South Africa. The Super Falcons defender reportedly removed her account following heavy reactions from disappointed Nigerian supporters online.
Nigeria’s WAFCON campaign ended in the quarter-finals after Cameroon defeated the Super Falcons 1-0 in Morocco. That result forced Nigeria into another opportunity to secure qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
South Africa ended those hopes by defeating Nigeria 2-1 during Thursday’s decisive playoff match in Casablanca. The defeat ended Nigeria’s remarkable streak of qualifying for every previous Women’s World Cup since the competition began.
For Alozie, the disappointment came after another difficult tournament campaign with Nigeria’s highly experienced Super Falcons squad. Supporters directed much of their frustration toward players, coaches and the Nigeria Football Federation following consecutive setbacks.
Alozie has previously attracted attention for her social-media presence alongside her performances for Nigeria and Houston Dash. The defender remains an important Super Falcons player, having featured prominently during Nigeria’s recent international campaigns.

The Super Falcons entered Morocco as defending champions after winning their record-extending tenth continental title during the previous tournament. Instead, Nigeria exited before the semifinals and subsequently missed the World Cup for the first time.
