Governor Ademola Adeleke won the 2026 Osun governorship election, securing another term after defeating APC challenger Bola Oyebamiji statewide. INEC declared Adeleke winner Sunday, August 16, after officials completed collation at the state headquarters in Osogbo.
The Accord Party candidate secured 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who finished second with 444,815 votes across Osun State. Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victories across the remaining eleven councils.
ADC candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes, according to figures announced during the final collation exercise. The election recorded 1,005,800 total votes cast, including 985,079 valid votes and 20,721 rejected or invalid ballots.
Adeleke’s victory gives him another four-year mandate after his first election victory in Osun during the 2022 governorship contest. However, this election marked Adeleke’s first governorship race under Accord following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Throughout the campaign, Adeleke defended his administration’s record while opposition candidates sought to challenge his control over Osun. The closely contested race attracted major political attention, with Oyebamiji presenting himself as a strong challenger throughout the campaign.
After the declaration, Adeleke secured a second term and will continue governing Osun following his successful reelection campaign this weekend. The 2026 Osun governorship election therefore strengthens Adeleke’s political position while setting the stage for another four-year administration.
