Madonna has urged fans to put away their phones and enjoy live moments instead of recording them.
The music icon shared her thoughts on technology during the premiere of Confessions II – The Film at New York’s Beacon Theater on Friday night. The event included a Q&A session with Madonna and directing duo TORSO, made up of David Toro and Solomon Chase. Anderson Cooper moderated the discussion.
Madonna Speaks on Phone Culture
During the conversation, Cooper pointed out that attendees had locked their phones in Yondr pouches throughout the event.
Madonna said people now have a “persistent need” to document everything. She believes this habit has changed how many people experience life and entertainment.
Despite accepting that technology is part of modern life, she made her own position clear.
“I came to this earth to be a doer, not a watcher,” she said.
Coachella Inspired Her Comments
Madonna recalled her recent appearance at Coachella alongside Sabrina Carpenter.
She said she enjoyed the festival. However, she found it strange to look into the crowd and see screens instead of faces.
The singer explained that dancing creates a powerful human connection. She described it as a “deep tribal experience” that brings people together.
According to Madonna, many people now focus on capturing moments instead of fully living them.
A Direct Message to Fans
As the discussion ended, Madonna delivered a simple message to concertgoers.
“Put your fucking phones down and connect.”
The comment drew attention to a growing debate about smartphone use at concerts and public events.

She also teased several surprise appearances in the coming months. For now, her next confirmed performance is the FIFA World Cup Final halftime show on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
