Aku Ezeiruaku, a content creator and social media personality, has alleged that Nigerian singer Wande Coal failed to refund more than $20,000 she spent organising a show for him in Canada.
She made the allegation while speaking on the Pair Pressure podcast, where she recalled her experience organising a concert for the singer in 2019.
Ezeiruaku also shared a flier dated August 30, 2019, showing Wande Coal as the headliner for a concert at Fraserview Banquet Hall in Canada.
“I spent over $20,000 on an event. I paid vendors. I booked halls. I put you in a hotel, but I could not get my money back. I have all the receipts with me,” she said.
How the dispute started
Ezeiruaku said the incident happened when she was just starting her journey in the entertainment business.
She claimed Wande Coal contacted her after saying he was facing financial difficulties.
“He used to go to my brother’s place in South Africa. My brother called me one day and told me things were not going well for Wande and that he was in Canada. Wande called me and said things were hard and that he was duped. He said his managers messed up. He said he had heard I was staying in Vancouver and had just launched an entertainment company,” she said.
The content creator alleged that the singer asked her to send the deposit directly to him instead of his manager.
“He asked me to send the deposit to him directly and not to the manager. I told him we could not do it at the time, that Burna Boy just did a show and it was sold out. He told me he could even get Burna to say something about the show. I told him we should tread carefully. I told him he did not have a hit song at the time.”
After Wande Coal stayed at her home, Ezeiruaku said she sent the money for the event.
She alleged that the singer later demanded a $3,500 balance and asked her to fly him from Nigeria to Canada for the show.
“We did not have a written agreement because I thought I was helping a human being,” she said.
‘I went into depression’
Ezeiruaku said the incident had a major effect on her, adding that she went into depression after the experience.
“I went into depression. I almost died. You remember I used to feed you in my house. I did show for you, and you f**ked me up like that?” she added.
She said she later demanded that Wande Coal return the money she had paid.
“I told him to refund me and give me back my deposit. You will give me back that money.
“I told him to send me back my deposit of 3,500 Canadian dollars. Wande used to dance for me. He went on and became a huge star. I was so happy for him. I was there when he met Don Jazzy.”
