Timothée Chalamet made it clear where his priorities lie after the New York Knicks ended a 53-year wait for an NBA championship, declaring that the historic title means more to him than winning an Oscar.
The actor, who became a familiar courtside presence during the NBA Finals, spoke to SportsCenter moments after the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 on Saturday night to secure the championship.
“Way rather this than the Oscars! Come on, baby!” Chalamet said. “Knicks are champions, baby!”
The celebration continued beyond the court as Chalamet joined players inside the locker room to mark the franchise’s first title since 1973. In a video from the festivities, someone off-camera asked if he wanted protective goggles before the champagne showers began.
“I don’t deserve them. I’m not an athlete. Usually, I have a stunt double do that,” Chalamet replied.
The Oscar-nominated actor is still chasing his first Academy Award despite earning three best actor nominations. He received recognition for Call Me by Your Name in 2018, A Complete Unknown in 2025, and Marty Supreme in 2026.
While Chalamet has spent eight years waiting for Oscar glory, the Knicks endured a much longer drought. Their last championship came in 1973, when they also defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in a 4-1 series.
