Keanu Reeves, the Hollywood actor, is in talks to star in The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, an action-crime thriller that James Wan will direct for Paramount Pictures.
The film reimagines the 2019 South Korean thriller of the same name, which starred Don Lee, also known as Ma Dong-seok. Lee will reprise his role in the remake, potentially sharing the screen with Reeves.
The original film follows a police officer and a gangster who reluctantly team up to track down a serial killer. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 and earned rave reviews.
Wan will direct the remake, his first feature film since Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. He will also produce the project alongside Michael Clear, Jason Blum of Blumhouse Atomic Monster, Lee’s Big Punch Global, Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller of Balboa Productions, Chris S. Lee of B&C Group, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
The project has been in development since 2019. Wan joined the production this spring.
Eric Pearson wrote the latest screenplay, drawing on earlier drafts by Shay Hatten and Brian Helgeland. Helgeland and Billy Acumen will serve as executive producers.
Reeves adds another action project to his filmography
Reeves has led several major action franchises, including The Matrix and John Wick. His possible role in the remake would add another action thriller to his filmography.
The actor recently starred in Outcome, an Apple TV comedy-drama directed by Jonah Hill. He also voiced Duke Caboom in Toy Story 5.
Reeves will next reprise his voice role as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Paramount has scheduled the film for release on March 19, 2027.
