Jorge Jesus says Cristiano Ronaldo must decide his Portugal future, while stressing that everything remains open after their recent disagreement. Jesus made the comments after Portugal defeated Norway 2-1, securing qualification for the Nations League quarter-finals despite Ronaldo’s absence there.
Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp following a disagreement with Jesus after the coach’s press conference and conversation with federation president. According to Jesus, the situation resulted from a misunderstanding that he believes can be resolved without creating lasting problems later.
The Portugal manager did not rule out Ronaldo’s return, instead placing responsibility for the decision directly with the veteran captain. Jesus said Ronaldo would need to determine whether he wants to continue representing Portugal before any future international involvement occurs.
Meanwhile, Portugal strengthened their Nations League campaign by defeating Norway through goals from João Cancelo and Gonçalo Ramos during Sunday. Norway initially took the lead through Kristoffer Ajer, before Cancelo equalised and Ramos completed Portugal’s comeback during the second half.
Portugal also finished the match with ten players after Francisco Conceição received a red card late during Sunday’s encounter there. Despite Ronaldo’s absence, Portugal secured another victory and advanced to the Nations League quarter-finals under their new manager Jorge Jesus.
For Ronaldo, the situation leaves his international future uncertain after he previously said he would explain his departure later publicly. Jesus’ latest comments suggest that Ronaldo’s return remains possible, although the final decision rests with the Al Nassr forward himself.
