Selena Gomez, an award-winning singer and actress, has opened up about her battles with hate speech online and how bad remarks about her beauty and personal life have affected her.
Selena Gomez has never been one to shy away from discussing her personal struggles. From battling lupus to dealing with mental health challenges, she has remained open and honest with her fans.
However, one issue that continues to follow her is body-shaming.
In a recent statement, the Only Murders in the Building star admitted that the negativity surrounding her weight fluctuations has deeply affected her. Speaking candidly, she said:
“It makes me sad, bitter. I constantly have to remind myself that my worth is not defined by my body.”
Selenaโs words shed light on the harsh reality of being in the public eye, where unrealistic beauty standards and internet trolling can take a serious emotional toll.

The 31-year-old star then discussed the difficulties faced by women in the entertainment industry in a recent interview with her fiancรฉ on the Jay Shetty Podcast, pointing out that they are subjected to much more scrutiny than men.
“Women have it much worse in the industry. I think from my perspective it’s pretty wild. It’s not news to anyone that women have more intense feelings, about their appearance to what they’re wearing. For me when I get prepared for an event, I just hope that I can take the picture and sit down.”
She emphasised the unfavourable feedback she got for her role in the critically acclaimed film Emilia Perez, claiming that everyone was critical of everything and that she enjoyed reading the comments on the internet.
“The character gets judged; it’s the way I’m not white enough, I’m not Mexican enough, and I don’t know there are so many things that come up in my face that I can’t help but see. I fall victim to looking, and really, if doesn’t add to your life. It’s just so difficult from the choices of the people you date yet nobody cares when it comes to men. It’s like, yeah, ‘they did that; they said that or this.’”
Gomez also talked about how much attention she has been getting lately for her weight changes because she has lupus disease.

As a high-profile celebrity, her weight fluctuations have often become a topic of public discussion, with some online users making cruel and unnecessary remarks about her body.
“I just think that we carry a lot, and yeah, my weight is a big one too. Everyone just has something to see, and it’s making me sad. No, I’m not a victim, everyone, but it’s making me a tad bitter. I feel guilty for saying that, but it’s true.”
“I’m just happy that I take breaks completely at times, but I’m human, and sometimes I read things. But most of the time I ignore these things. There are ways to combat it. It’s not like I hate social media; I understand the power that it has. So it’s tricky.”
Gomez has been vocal about her battle with lupus, an autoimmune disease that affects various parts of the body.
As part of her treatment, she takes medication that can cause weight gain. Despite this, she has continued to advocate for body positivity and self-love.
