Tems, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, says she has “left the streets” and no longer deals with people who waste her time.
In Nigerian slang, “left the streets” often describes women who are getting married or no longer searching for love.
The 31-year-old artiste, born Temilade Openiyi, spoke during a TikTok livestream on Monday.
During the livestream, she discussed her experiences with men and moving away from relationships she considers unproductive.
“I don’t like it when people just waste my time. But for me, never again. I don’t have that problem anymore. I have left the world, the streets a long time ago. I wouldn’t even say I was ever on the streets,” she said.
Tems rose to fame in 2020 after collaborating with Wizkid on ‘Essence’. The song became a global hit and helped establish her as one of Nigeria’s leading singers.
Her first Grammy came in 2023 for her contribution to ‘Wait For U’. Future and Drake released the song in 2022.
At the 2025 Grammy Awards, she clinched her second prize in the Best African Music Performance category.
