Co-founders of photo sharing application, Instagram, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have resigned from Facebook company.
The duo resigned from their positions as Chief Executive and Chief Technology Officer respectively saying they planned to take time off.
“Mike and I are grateful for the last eight years at Instagram and six years with the Facebook team,” Systrom said in a statement late Monday, following a report on the departure in The New York Times.
“We’re planning on taking some time off to explore our curiosity and creativity again.”
The duo created the social media app in 2010 when they were both students at Stanford University, Silicon Valley.
CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg appreciated the duo for their talents saying, “I’ve learned a lot working with them.”
“I wish them all the best and I’m looking forward to seeing what they build next,” Zuckerberg said in a statement released by Facebook.
Several media outlets in the US believe they resigned due to disagreement with executives at Facebook.
Instagram was bought by Facebook in April 2012 for a billion dollars. The app hit over one billion active users in June and a new long-form video feature was unveiled in a bid to attract “creators” like those on YouTube.
